When I was living in Richmond, Virginia, in 2016, Black Lives Matter protests
on Monument Avenue took place two miles from my house. Now that I live in
Gainesville, Florida, a statue of Stonewall Jackson doesn't watch me drive to
the playground the way it did when I lived in Virginia.
